Bless, O God,
bless my weather-beaten soul.
A daily prayer blog by Bob Hostetler, the author of The Red Letter Prayer Life and the 31 Ways to Pray for Your Kids iPhone and iPad app. Just one prayer each day. Seldom more. Seldom very long. Sometimes personal. Sometimes original. Always sincere.
Beyond the gates of everlasting day,
Up to the starry threshold of the heavensI lift my eyes. I lift my eyes and pray:I pray to be remembered, and forgiven.I look for you in longing and I waitUpon you as your servant. You have givenDay-labour for your servant to complete,But nothing can be done without your graceWithout your kindling spirit, so I waitUpon your mercy, till you turn your faceAnd bless my work. Then, let the world despise,And the sophisticated sneer, in my placeHowever small, I have a role I prizeAs one scribe of the kingdom. I rejoiceAnd, with this psalmist, lift my grateful eyes.
