Lord my God,
Ancient of Days,
I thank you for the gift of memory.

Thank you for the faculty of remembering:
names and faces,
locations and directions,
letters and numbers,
good times and not-so-good times,
songs and Scripture,
and sometimes even where I put my glasses.

Thank you for the sweet memory of childhood play,
falling in love,
my wedding day,
my children's lives,
my grandchildren's births.

I thank you that,
while the years have dulled memory's edge,
they have not yet stolen it.

Thank you for the memories that yet remain in my mind,
and for those that yet remain in my future,
in Jesus' name, amen.
