The Eros Ethos

Father, I believe that your divine power has given me everything I need for life and godliness through my knowledge of you who called me by your own glory and goodness. I also believe that you have given me your very great and precious promises, so that through them I may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world—and in my life—caused by evil desires (2 Peter 1:3-4).

Please deliver me from all forms of sexual idolatry. Change my way of thinking. Change my way of acting. Change the way I respond to the incessant flow of sexual stimuli in the world around me. Help me to be more than victorious through you and your love for me. Help me to obey you and reflect you in all I do, in Jesus’ name, amen.

(the prayer that closes chapter ten, "The Eros Ethos," in my book, American Idols)
