Pharisaism

Lord, please save me
from pharisaism
and from Pharisees.

Save me from those who would control,
and condemn others.
Save me from those who see sin
in others but not themselves.
Save me from those whose arrogance
and lack of self-knowledge
allows them to sin against others
while calling them sinners.

Have mercy on me, a sinner,
and save me from my constant tendency
to be a Pharisee, too,
in Jesus' name, amen.
